This performance expectation is derived from decades of well-designed system upgrades and product enhancements. CFR systems and components are built to deliver unsurpassed operating life, from the robust engine crankcase and cylinder to the industrial grade control panels and accessories. With basic maintenance and upkeep, a user can expect CFR Engines Inc. products to consistently withstand the demands of today’s fuel testing environment and deliver the premium performance expected.

Genuine parts, valuable knowledge, and trusted product support.

Quick access to high quality genuine parts, valuable operation and maintenance knowledge, and support from trusted technicians are what a user needs to get the most value from their CFR Engines Inc. product. Use the links below to stay informed and connected with the resources needed to be successful with CFR products.

Genuine Parts

CFR Engines Inc. provides a full offering of Genuine Parts for each of its current production products, such as the the F1/F2 octane units and the F5 cetane units. CFR also recognizes the long operating history of its products and provides critical spare parts for its retired legacy products, such as the F4 supercharge units and the legacy control panels.

CFR products rely on the performance of all parts in the system. Often times the smallest single part plays an critical role in the performance of the overall product. It is important that individual parts are properly inspected and replaced according to factory recommendations. Proper inspection and maintenance of a CFR product will ensure ideal unit operation and user experience. More importantly, a well maintained CFR product will better perform method compliant tests and produce the most accurate results.

Major Assemblies and Systems

F1/F2 Four-Bowl Carburetor

The CFR F1/F2 Octane Rating Unit is equipped with a four-bowl variable-level carburetor that includes a falling level mode. Combined with XCP Technology, the CFR falling level carburetor gives the user the flexibility to utilize any of the four test procedures in ASTM Methods D2699 and D2700. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the carburetor system is crucial in maintaining precise air/fuel ratios, accurate tests, and costly downtime due to leaks or failed tests. Carburetor rebuild kits are available to support quick and complete servicing of a CFR carburetor.

F1/F2 Octane Cylinder

At the heart of the CFR F1/F2 Octane Rating Unit lies the variable compression cylinder and sleeve assembly. The many sealing surfaces of the cylinder effectively manage the air, fuel, and exhaust flow. The cylinder and piston assembly work to contain all of the energy and heat of the combustion process. Leaks, worn surfaces, and poor heat transfer within a cylinder lead to poor or failed test outcomes. Regular cylinder cleaning and proper part replacement at overhaul will help users get the longest life-cycle and best performance results. Eventually, a cylinder reaches its mechanical wear limits and should be replaced versus rebuilt.

F5 Cetane Cylinder and Head/Hand-wheel

Similar to the octane cylinder, successful tests with the CFR F5 Cetane Rating Unit rely on the cylinder assembly. The F5 cetane cylinder can also be similarly cleaned and serviced for a longer life-cycle before needing to be eventually replaced. Unique to the F5 is the cylinder head with its hand-wheel and variable compression plug. This sub-assembly is critical to creating the precise adjustments needed for a cetane test. Regular cleaning of this sensitive assembly will provide smooth and relaible operation for users. Detailed inspections and measurements will help users determine when components should be replaced in order to maintain performance.

Crankcase Overhaul Kits

The CFR crankcase is a heavy-duty cast box-type design that provides both strength and rigidity for the loads produced during octane and cetane testing. The crankcase is well known for its robust design and long service life when operated and maintained properly. When the crankcase needs to be overhauled or rebuilt, it is crucial that all parts are inspected and measured. Any part outside of limits, or even close to limits should be replaced. This best practice avoids tolerance stacking among critical parts, which cumulatively add up to create operational issues. Thorough parts replacement at time of crankcase overhaul gives the best investment value by ensuring full life-cycle.
